Recommendations for vaccinating horses:

West Nile, Eastern/Western Encephalitis, Tetnus, Influenza and Rhinopneumonitis should be given once a year, usually in early spring.

Horses that are traveling should have the Flu/Rhino portion given twice a year.

Rabies is recommended for all horses.

Strangles vaccine is usually for horses that are in contact with other horses in boarding facilities, stables or a horse that travels to rodeos and other events.

Pneumobort (EHV-1) is for pregnant mares-  given at 5, 7 and 9 months of gestation.

Horses should be dewormed every 3-4 months.
The dewormer used should be rotated, for example:

FEB – Quest Plus (ascarids, strongyles, pins, tapeworms & bots)
MAY – Panacur (ascarids, strongyles, lung, hooks, & pins)
AUG – Strongid (ascarids, strongyles, lung, hooks & pins)
NOV – Ivercide (ascarids, strongyles, lung, hooks, pins and bots)
